The Rise of the Vigilante Goddess
by
Paul R. Meredith
This story is the second in my Vigilante series which currently contains three thriller novels, The Vigilante God, The Rise of the Vigilante Goddess, and The Return of the Vigilante Goddess. A fourth novel is being written at the current time and should be completed in a few weeks. To get you acquainted with the series, the following prologue from The Rise of the Vigilante Goddess will bring you pretty well up to speed. It is important to note each book in the series is a complete novel and will stand alone.
The idea of this series actually started with me a long time ago when I read where serious criminals of violent crimes were being turned loose with nothing more than a slap on the hand in some of the large cities of our country. I realize the prisons are overcrowded and all that, and that some judges were not as hard as others with sentencing, so I started to wonder just how much vigilante justice was actually being conducted by citizens who felt they had been cheated by the formal justice systems. Do people really take matters into their own hands in some rare cases? Well, I don't know the answer to that for sure, but thinking back to the early days of our own wild West, I know it happened then and there. So, if we did this sort of thing in the past, could it actually be happening again today? This series takes us to a fictional place where maybe it is actually being done. I hope you read and enjoy the Vigilante series.
Prologue
Esther
Martini, formerly known as Esther Scroggins, owned a small investigative
service in Omaha, Nebraska. Her first husband died of cancer,
after which she married Bruno Martini, a paunchy, short balding man of Italian
heritage. Esther met Bruno through a work affiliation when she was doing
specialty work for a man she knew only as Sam Little. Bruno worked for the same
man. When Esther met Bruno they almost instantly fell in love. Esther loved
Bruno passionately and married him quite suddenly. Unfortunately, Bruno met an
untimely work-related death early in the marriage; his death shocked Esther to
her core.
Esther went by her alias name of
Kate Sullivan while she worked for Sam Little, a man bent on correcting the
criminal ills of the world. While he had been a successful attorney under the
name of Paul Dixon, after his young son was killed in a bizarre hunting
accident he nearly went berserk, resigned his job, left his wife and took off
for parts unknown. He wondered if the death of his son was actually an accident, or did someone kill him for fun. When Paul emerged from self exile, he started planning his
new career as a vigilante, hunting down criminals who had somehow escaped
rightful punishment for their horrendous crimes from the courts. For the sake
of anonymity Dixon
assumed the name of Sam Little to start his new line of work. Once he located
the criminals upon whom he wanted to serve his style of justice, he contacted
the innocents who had been victimized by that person or persons who had escaped
the correct criminal punishment. For an extremely substantial fee, Sam Little
would assure his clients the ultimate justice the courts had cheated them from
getting. As his vigilante business grew, Sam Little found it necessary to
recruit others to assist him in his quest, one of those people being Esther
Scroggins, aka Kate Sullivan.
This story starts where The Vigilante God ended.
