MY MOMMA'S ANGEL

As a young girl living in a Kentucky coal-mining town, life was pretty stark for Geraldine Finch. When her loving father died and her mother remarried for household financial stability, the new stepfather decided he could rape the young girl and get by with it. Her mother appeared to disbelieve Geri when she finally told her, so at the very young age of sixteen she decided she could take no more of the abuse and she ran away from home.

It was Geraldine’s good fortune to be picked up on the highway by a woman who took her under her wing and helped her through a tumultuous period in her early life, especially after learning later the young girl had been impregnated by the stepfather. This woman, Millie Carson, would become Geri’s lifelong best friend.
From that rather auspicious beginning to working her way to adulthood, this young girl weaved her way from her poor Kentucky beginnings to Los Angeles where she found work as a waitress, which turned out to be the path she would follow to a more important position as a server in an upscale dinner club position. Here is where she met two important movie executives dining out with their wives.
Geri, as she preferred to be called, was asked to read a part of a script by one of the men she served that evening. From that fortuitous moment to becoming a major Hollywood star was a complicated path that involved a number of very lucky breaks, including having great friends, intimate relationships, marriages, foreign travel, unfortunate deaths, and eventually retirement from her movie career.
Geri eventually feels the pangs of guilt when she learns her hated stepfather has died. She feels the need to finally heal the rift with her mother, an un-degreed school teacher who is about to reach retirement age. After many years of estrangement, Geri returns to visit her mother back home in Kentucky. She ultimately moves her mother to California to live with her.
In retirement Geri found life to be very boring. Her substantial wealth from the movies and one very lucrative marriage, plus the meeting of one very special doctor, set Geri on the path she would pursue the remainder of her life.

Murder on the 10th Green

A golf course is the last place one would ever think a person would be murdered, but in this story, Murder on the 10th Green, a brutal, bloody murder took place while a married couple was putting out on the green of the private golf club in their upscale gated community of Plantation Bay. A shot was heard by a couple planting flowers in their backyard adjacent to the 10th hole of the golf course, followed by the extremely loud blood-curdling scream of help from a woman. When the couple planting flowers dropped what they were doing and scurried up the hill to see what the ruckus was, they encountered the bloody scene of a man lying on the green with the blood from his gaping head wound seeping into the turf. His wife was frantically hovering over his body as she tried in vain to help him.

Detectives Steve Ferrante and Alan Hurd are assigned to the case by Police Chief Sheila Adams. As the two detectives begin the investigation process, a number of people are found to be embroiled in the case one way or another. The very diverse and colorful characters slowly jump to life in ways not expected.

Not only is the story of murder and intrigue, but it also contains elements of romance, character suspense, financial mystery amid a Ponzi scheme, plus the mounting frustration by the police chief, mayor, and the two detectives.

I believe this story will hold your interest throughout.

RIVER RAGE REVENGE, my new thriller novel, is one of those kinds of novels that is difficult to place in a specific genre because it contains elements of more than one genre. I prefer to think of the tale as a terrific romance story with elements of not just passionate romance, but also an adventure. There is a mix of love, hate, jealousy, deceit, ambition, cheating, finance, and finally, the mysterious murder of a young woman whose body is discovered in a shallow grave next to a river.

A short synopsis of the story: Two young people who dated once during college discover each other once again later when they are both working toward their career goals, Jennifer Corrington as an attorney and Paul Mercer as a young and ambitious politician. However, they both live far apart, making the growth of their love affair difficult. Eventually, they find a way to work out the distance problem and find a way to culminate their love and become married. Paul is now in the U.S. Congress in Washington and Jennifer is working in Chicago. Even though they are still far from each other, Jennifer hatches a plan to leave her position in Chicago and move to a new legal position in Washington to be near her husband.

Fate steps in.when Paul's best friend, Jerry Webster, is killed in an auto accident out West, leaving his financial business and all his personal wealth to Paul and his office manager, Shelley Davis. Paul has to make a career decision to either stay in D.C. or go back to his hometown and learn the finance business his friend left him and Shelley. Encouraged by his wife Jennifer, the couple decides to leave Washington and move back to their hometown of Decatur. Paul joins the business with Shelley and Jennifer opens a private law firm. In order to help get the struggling business off to a decent start, Paul and Shelley hire an experienced woman in finance to help the business. Her name is Gloria Sharpley. Then they discover unsavory background information on the woman and are forced to fire her.

For a short time, all seems well, but then all hell breaks loose when the body of the missing woman is discovered in a shallow grave on the edge of the Sangamon River near Decatur. Mysterious envelopes are received at Jennifer's office, leading her to believe her husband Paul may have known the dead woman while he was in Washington. Trust issues develop which eventually causes Paul to divorce Jennifer.

Detectives Harold Hanson and Joshua Dean are in charge of the investigation into the murder of the woman. As the investigation unfolds, several people are included as potential suspects in the case, including Ted Knowles, an ex-husband of the dead woman, Paul Mercer, and even his ex-wife Jennifer.

After a series of events plus an anonymous call to one of the detectives, the plot thickens considerably until a totally surprising event leads them onto the right path to solve the murder. The reader will experience a story ending they could never predict.

The Vigilante Series

The Vigilante Series

by

Paul R. Meredith

My Vigilante series of crime novels consists of four stories. While each is a standalone story on its own merit, it is more gratifying if they are read in the sequence in which they were written. Here is the proper sequence:

The Vigilante God

The Rise of the Vigilante Goddess

The Return of the Vigilante Goddess

The Copycat Vigilantes

The series begins: The accidental hunting death of his eight-year-old son caused attorney Paul Dixon to go off on a wild tangent, costing him his marriage, his law career, and much, much more. He quit his position at the law firm where he was employed and left town after his divorce was final. He went into seclusion, changed his identity to Sam Little, and carefully conceived a plan to seek out the family members of those victims whose loved ones had suffered violence at the hands of the criminals in our society, criminals who had not received the full benefit of the justice system due to technicalities, loopholes in the law, crooked police, crooked judges, or slick-talking lawyers. Dixon's plans would be financed by those family members who felt they were cheated of justice by the criminal justice system, and the custom plans would be carried out by Sam Little's few very carefully selected hand-chosen associates.

Each of the stories will feed into the next one until the conclusion of the series with The Copycat Vigilantes.

My Favorite Stories

My Favorite Books

These books are listed in the order of my personal preference. They are my choices as favorite books I have written over the years. I also include the reasons for my choices. Often the stories are based on real events rather than just made-up stories.

All of these stories, as well as my other twenty stories, are available on

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Paul+R.+Meredith&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss

Some of them are available as softcover editions while most are in e-book format.

Kenyan Sunset – this story surprised me as it developed in my mind. I honestly never knew I had the creative ability to cover such a huge set of sub-plots in order to get to the main theme of the story. I had great admiration for my ability to write such a commanding and consuming story.

The Virginia Yankee – This story was actually my 26th novel, but it jumped up near the top of my list of favorites because it was inspired by my love of all things concerning the great American Civil War. While there is ample Civil War detail in the story, there is another story, a story that I believe is one of the best romantic sequences I have ever written.

Olive’s Angels – this story was inspired by my mother’s Christian faith and her love for angels. One of my sisters opened a store specializing in angels and angel paraphernalia in honor of Mom. As the idea to write this story developed, I sought stories from real people who had angel encounters. I dove into the bible to learn all I could about angels.

His Soul Mate – This was my very first novel I was able to get in print. It was inspired by my oldest daughter’s battle with breast cancer. The story is essentially a touchingly tender love story with a real-life ending.

An Iowa Blessing – I loved writing this story because it was based loosely on a love affair between two people I vaguely knew. I took some liberties with the story to ensure it had a better ending than the real story, but it nevertheless captures the essence of what I wanted to say. I lived in Iowa for several years and some of my children and grandchildren still call Iowa home.

The Love Wish – I had to include this story as one of my most favorites because it tells such a tender story of second love. This love story again is loosely based on a real event that I was close to, an event that held great happiness for two people for several years…until real life kicked in and ended as many stories do. I lived in Iowa and Illinois, the Midwest settings for this story. Even though this story doesn’t end all gushy, I hope the reader will pick it up and be enthralled as most people who read it have been. It is totally consuming as it unfolds.

It is my hope you will download or order one or more of my twenty-six stories and enjoy reading them as much as I did writing them.

The Death of a Soul Mate

People grow old, they sometimes get sick and die. It is the great plan of our Creator that dying is what will happen to all living things including human beings. We all know the Creator’s plan and learn to accept it over time, especially as we get along in years and see the breakdown of the body take its toll on us.

The worst part of the aging process to people who have been happily married for many years is losing the loved one who has been with them through thick and thin. For me, getting old and seeing my body lose some of its youthful abilities was perfectly acceptable. What was not so acceptable was seeing my wife suffer the ravages of age, becoming incapacitated and eventually become ill and die of an unexpected brain tumor.

I will never forget returning to my home that first night after she died, knowing as I put my head on my pillow that first night, my wife and soul mate would never again share my bed with me. During the seventy-two days she was lying ill in the hospital and then later at the nursing home, even when she was under terminal hospice care, I held out hope some miracle would allow her to return home to me. But when she eventually drew her last breath and her body was removed to a funeral home for final plans to be made, I knew at that moment all hope was gone. It dawned on me that very night my beautiful wife would never be with me again. Decent nights of sleep never came to me...not for months.

I lost a young wife to death when I was younger. We had been married for just nine years. We had three beautiful children together. Her death was absolutely staggering to me. Then years later I lost a beautiful and very talented older daughter to breast cancer. Her death nearly brought me to my knees once again. But I was somehow able to eventually come to grips with these two devastating personal losses. I think it may have been because I was younger and I knew I had to handle my responsibilities. In the case of losing my young wife, I had the raising of our three young daughters to carry me through, and then later when my daughter passed, I was buoyed by the fact I had a loving but ill wife who desperately needed me.

When my loving wife passed away when I was eighty-one years old, I knew in my heart there would never be another love in my life like her. Yes, of course, I deeply loved my surviving children, but they were all living far away and most of them have spouses, significant others or grown children watching after them. My role as a caretaker was over. I realized I was just counting the days until my time here on earth was coming to an end.  It doesn’t mean that I was feeling sorry for myself. As I told one of my visiting daughters recently, my job here is essentially over. When something happens to me now, I will have no great regret. I lived my life the only way I knew how and I think I did a pretty good job with the responsibilities I was given. When my time does finally come, I will be ready. I no longer have life goals ahead of me to achieve.

 YANKEE
_______________________

A Historical Civil War Romance Novel

__________

Paul R. Meredith

Short synopsis:

This story is of romance during the American Civil War. It tells the story of the life of Ephraim White, a Union northerner from West Virginia who crossed over into the southern Confederate state of Virginia to marry a reluctant young southern girl named Julia Spencer. Ephraim had won the right to marry her in a showdown poker game with her father two years before when she was just twelve years old.
Ephraim is a land surveyor by trade and a gambler by choice. He has worked hard to earn and save all he could, plus he also has won money through gambling, enough to buy a small plantation in the Richmond area before he marries the young girl who has just turned fourteen.         After marriage Ephraim eventually becomes a spy for both sides (a double agent) during the Civil War. The spying could get him hanged by either side if he were to be discovered.
The story begins as Ephraim is crossing over the state line into Virginia and details Ephraim’s life through the remainder of the Civil War and well beyond while encompassing many, many harrowing wartime experiences. Ephraim’s love life suddenly becomes quite complicated when he meets a young red-headed Irish woman named Gina Ellsworth.

Joanna's Sin

Joanna's Sin is a unique mystery adventure/romance novel in that it deals with a topic not seen in most stories of mystery, love, and compassion. That topic is not revealed until the very end of the story, but the plot and sub-plots leading there will keep the reader on edge until they finally get it. Plus the story setting takes place where one might least expect it, in a 55-plus coastal retirement community. The reader will really want to explore this concept in telling a love story, a compelling story between older adults.

Here is a brief example of what you will find in the story:

In the quiet coastal community of Beaver Creek, a fifty-five plus gated community located inside a larger city OF Ormond Beach in Central Eastern Florida, residents awoke to the noisy confusion of police car, fire truck and ambulance sirens that surrounded the discovery of a woman’s dead body floating in one of the three small lakes inside the community. Life suddenly changed for more than six hundred residents. Instead of the peace and quiet of casual retirement living just off the Atlantic Ocean, they were now aware of the potential of a killer living among them. Following the news of the murder of yet a second woman of Beaver Creek, a beloved woman by the name of Sara James, the nerves of the residents of Beaver Creek were really set on edge. Even though the residents clamored for an arrest, it seemed the police were not doing enough to attempt to solve the two crimes. Some were suspicious the police had dropped the investigation altogether.

A mysterious woman by the name of Joanna Simpson moved into the community a bit later, a woman from California who was hell-bent on finding and bringing to justice the murderer of her sister, Sara James. She kept her identity secret from all but one close confidant. Once she felt she knew who it was that killed her sister, Joanna hatched a plan to deliver her brand of justice to that person. What she had to do to get close enough to the person to serve him justice is the main plot of the story, a story that leads to a totally unexpected and shocking conclusion.

Sunshine Comes After Rain

Sunshine Comes After Rain
by
Paul R. Meredith

The following four paragraphs are in the introduction of my new romance novel named above. This is my 24th novel and one that I enjoyed writing so well that I finished it in near record time. I hope you will read this introduction and then be inspired enough to purchase it.

:
The story is a Kindle e-book and is available for just $2.99 at:

Introduction

It was June. The moment she had been awaiting for nearly five years was coming to fruition in just a few more minutes. Jeri was about to become the bride she always wanted to be since she was a little girl. Her dreams were always all about growing up, meeting her handsome prince charming, getting married and having children. Now she was on the doorstep of all those dreams coming true.

Jeri had not seen her husband-to-be for five days because of his work. Paul’s mother Grace was too ill to come and see her son get married. Since the wedding was to be slightly smaller than Jeri originally wanted to have and due to his hectic work schedule, she agreed to let Paul opt out of holding a rehearsal dinner. His mother could not really afford one anyway. He had also opted out of a bachelor party that his brother offered to host for him. She and her parents would have a small gathering for dinner at a popular restaurant near the church for about twenty of the people in the wedding party the night before the wedding. Paul was scheduled to arrive at the church in plenty of time for the ceremony on Saturday.

Outside the sanctuary door of the large Methodist church, Jeri grew extremely nervous as the time came for her father to walk her slowly down the long aisle and give her hand to Paul Wilson, her first true love and the man of her dreams. She nervously thought about that moment when she and Paul would be announced as a married couple and he would kiss her in front of the moderate-sized crowd of family and close friends. She shed a tear of happiness as that moment seemed imminent.

There was a screech of tires stopping too quickly outside the front door of the church. Jeri and her father heard a car door slam and then saw a man rushing toward the door of the church. The doors had been locked after all the guests were seated. It was due to church policy concerning the safety of people inside the church during services. Most churches across the country were doing the same thing since the church shooting in Charleston. Then they saw the figure of a man rush past a side window as if he was headed toward the rear of the church, but he would find those doors locked as well.

The Game of Golf

The Lovely Frustrating Game of Golf

by

Paul R. Meredith

I play the game of golf, perhaps not very well these days, but I do still play. I have played golf for over sixty-five years off and on. At my advanced age, golf is a very taxing game because it takes a lot of energy that I don't seem to have much of these days. In my younger days I always walked the golf course carrying my bag of clubs. Then I started using a hand cart in my middle years. Today I require an electric cart to ride in around the course in order to play the game. That is because my legs are pretty much shot and I don't feel well much of the time. I absolutely don't hit the ball very far these days. Most of the Florida courses require the use of a cart these days in order to speed up play so they can earn more revenue. There are a few courses where walking is permitted, but they are rapidly disappearing from the scene.

It is true that playing golf is not a cheap sport if one really loves to play the game seriously. The equipment required can actually be quite expensive, although the quality of the equipment can vary quite widely if one wants to do it on the cheap side. Then there are the green fees, the range balls for practice, and almost always the tip for the bag man. Often it is advisable to pay for the services of a golf professional to teach certain aspects of the game if there is a need to do so. There will be some minor costs for the upkeep of equipment, such as new grips for the clubs periodically. And of course there is the cost for new golf balls, especially for the amateur players who tend to hit several stray shots during play. One doesn't always find the ball they hit in the woods, or in the lakes. Compared to other outdoor sports, I suppose golf could be about equal in costs. Hunting and shooting can be quite costly too, as is fox hunting, but ping pong or tennis would be considerably cheaper.

I justify my expenditures on golf by telling myself I do not smoke or drink, so that allows me to feel good about whatever I do spend on golf. I am not saying I never have a social drink because that would not be true, but my expenses are extremely limited in drinking. I have not smoked a cigarette in more than thirty years.

So why do I still play this game of hitting and chasing that little white ball that many say is a silly waste of time? Well, the answer is fairly simple to me. First of all, I play because I love the camaraderie of being with the kind of friends I choose for myself, but there are also other reasons. It is said that golf is a game for gentlemen. That is very true; you will never find golfers fighting over the game, such as you might witness in a game of basketball or football. I have always found that golf is a game that defines the character of a man or a woman. Most people who play the game of golf are upstanding members of their community, people who often attend church and who offer help to others less fortunate. You will rarely find people playing golf who are outcast members of society.
Golf is a game where the player calls penalties on himself or herself, not rely on a judge, jury, referee, or someone else to do it for them. I find that people who play golf are not cheaters. Yes, rarely a player will mistakenly lose track of a shot, especially when we grow older and our minds aren't as sharp as when we were younger, but it is not that common. Even then, a simple reminder from a playing partner will quickly correct the mistake.
Golf is a very safe game to play. It would be extremely rare to read of a robbery on the golf course, or of a personal attack like a rape or mugging, let alone a murder. People who do those things are generally not golfers. You rarely if ever hear that someone playing golf has broken his leg, or his arm. And a caveat is that golf is a peaceful, quiet game that is played in a beautiful setting out in nature. Compare all this to playing a game like football or basketball where settings and attitudes are generally much different, where noise levels are through the roof..

By and large, golfers are an honorable group of individuals who never create chaos, but choose to conduct their lives in harmony with others. You may have noticed on television how the pros always shake hands at the conclusion of a golf match, not with just each other, but also with their caddies and the caddies of the opposition. This happens whether a player wins or loses. It is a great sign of true sportsmanship. I know of no other sport where this takes place quite like it does in golf. I think that may be why they call golf a game for gentlemen--and also for gentlewomen. Early in the history of the game of golf, it was truly a gentleman's sport, but it has morphed into an amazing sport for both genders because it can be equally played well by man or woman.

I simply love this game of golf.

The End of Hope

This story is about the life of my beautiful wife Sandra Lee Meredith. She died June 11, 2017, but her legacy lives on through me, through all her children whether biological or through marriage, and all the grandchildren of the union with her husband Paul (me).

I wrote this story because I did not want her to be forgotten after I am gone. I am nearing 83 now, so my time here is measured. I want all our children and grandchildren to know what a terrific human being Sandra Lee was for her entire life. Not only was she a good woman, but a wonderful Christian woman to boot.

This story is quite different from any of my previous twenty-one stories, primarily because it is a true story, even though it begins with a fictional opening. And yes, there are a few places where details are not completely accurate due to lack of memory or other causes, but in overall content, it is a good accounting of much of Sandra's life. But of course it is only the shell of her life because there are way too many intimate details that are no longer available to me. I also fictionalized names and places to protect those who could be offended if they were named.

Sandra's life was remarkable for a lot of reasons, none more important than the medical hurdles she faced during the run of her entire life from early childhood right up to the very end. One of her most frustrating battles was with the multiple sclerosis she suffered from mid-life forward, along with the terrible migraine headaches she suffered from the age of nine. She suffered from three distinct primary cancers, plus she had over forty known surgeries including a life-saving one at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. But rather than focus on the medical negatives of her life, please read the story to see the positive affect she had on all who were fortunate enough to know the real her, the Sandra Lee Meredith I knew and loved for thirty years until her death. This is that story:

THE END OF HOPE, a new Meredith medical romance story that will keep you in the story to the very end. It is at Amazon Kindle:

This is my wife Sandra
Sandra Lee Meredith

Please keep in mind that above all else, this a real romance story that actually happened between two very real people, and it never even began until both were in their middle ages.

The Love Wish

Every now and then I like to revisit one of my earlier novels and see how current they are. This one I am looking at today was one that was written during a particularly difficult time in the life of a great friend of mine. I created a work of fiction from a real life example, one that continues to haunt me to this very day.

THE LOVE WISH is a story we can all relate to in one way or another since we have all had friends who faced medical trauma in their lives. But this story is a bit different because it tells, not just of a medical condition, but rather a passionate love story with a medical component to it.

Below is a very short synopsis of the story you do not want to miss:

Linda Folger had always dreamed of growing up and finding her prince charming, marrying him and having two or three children. She wanted to live happily ever after with her little family in a house in the woods with a white fence around it. That was it! That was all she ever wanted from life--to live the American dream. Linda suffered through a rocky period when her love wish seemed to be out of reach, but then her life took an unexpected turn for the better. Suddenly she had it all in the palm of her hand, and she thanked God for all that He had done for her. Then, as life often does, Linda's life took yet another turn and she was dealt a situation that took her life in a totally different direction, a direction that we all fear could someday be dealt to us. This is Linda's story—of how she handled both the ups and the downs. This is the story of Linda's love wish.

------------------------------
I have been told I write stories that are quite different than those other writers care to write about, but I prefer to write about life's challenges as they really are, not necessarily always with fairy tale endings. My Early Novels

My First Novels
I started writing novels as a way of trying to reduce some of the stresses in a busy life. Once I wrote the first one, I guess I would have to say I was hooked on writing. A Christian woman's need to find balance between the love of a good man and her God is severely tested before the story's dramatic conclusion.

Paul R. Meredith writes novels that are difficult to lay aside. Ten Minutes Past Two is a story that will take the reader through peaks and valleys of a Christian woman's business and personal life after the sudden accidental death of her husband.

Daughter Visits

Sandra and I just had a several-day visit from my youngest daughter Sharyl and her husband Kevin. They live in Bettendorf, Iowa, so we don't get to see them very often in Florida. During the time they were here we had a wonderful time. It is always so sad when they leave to go back home.

I love having our kids visit, and lucky me, I will soon be having my second daughter Tara come visit with us for several days. She lives in Urbandale, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines. I am very tight with the girls. We have gone through much together. As with Sharyl, because Tara lives so far away from us our visits are very limited, so each one is very special.

My youngest son Paul Jr. has said he and his new wife Sherry will also visit soon. We look forward to meeting Sherry. They live in Muscatine, Iowa, so again, we don't get to see Paul very often.

The older we get, the more special it is to see our kids. I think the girls try harder to visit us because I think they get the fact that our visits will be extremely limited due to our advanced ages.

Jenna McNabb

I am excited to report that my two-act romantic drama play, JENNA McNABB, is being read by a popular local theater group. While I realize it may not be accepted as part of their theater agenda in the near future, I am promised they will at least critique it and give me feedback which will help me make it better. As for me, I like it the way it is written now, but I can't be absolutely sure it will fit within the two-hour general guideline smaller theaters attempt to keep.

As you may know, writing novels has been my passion for the last several years, but I want to also be in the activity of writing stage plays. JENNA McNABB is my first effort, but I hope it won't be my last because I have some really great ideas.

Jenna McNabb is more or less a takeoff from a short story I wrote many years ago with the simple title of, JENNA. The name is taken from one of my beautiful granddaughters.

I hope you will wish me luck.

Trip to Israel

These are the opening paragraphs of the most remarkable trip we ever went on, and it was one we will never forget. We wish everybody could experience a journey like this one. We continue to call it the trip of a lifetime. We never expect another to equal it or even come close. I have written a lengthy account of that trip, but it is far too long to place here. I always write detailed accounts of each foreign trip we take, hoping it will someday be read by our children so they will know we weren't as dull as we might seem in our maturity.

Israel- 1993

We left Sullivan, Illinois July 23rd for our first real trip overseas as a couple. The year was 1993. Sandra’s brother Larry had been living in Israel for a couple of years by then and was attempting to learn Hebrew in order to become a citizen of the country. He previously lived in New York City for over twenty years. Somehow Larry had done some work for a company in Israel and earned two free tickets for round trips to Israel from the USA, so he gave them to his sister and me.

Our flight out of the US started from Champaign, Illinois, only fifty miles or so from our home. We had driven there and checked our four bags at Willard Airport for the short trip to Newark where we would catch our Lufthansa Airlines ride to Tel Aviv via Frankfurt, Germany.

Our overseas flight left Newark about four in the afternoon for the long trip across the Atlantic. I think Sandra was almost as excited as me to know we would be seeing Larry in a short time. Larry was to meet us at Ben Gurion Airport just outside of Tel Aviv later the next day. He was borrowing a car from his friend and business partner in order to meet us and take us to an apartment he had arranged for us to rent.

Our flight to Frankfurt went off without a hitch, at least until we reached the Frankfurt International Airport. As we left the plane to make our connection to Tel Aviv, we had to wait for our luggage to arrive so we could check it through to Israel. We waited as the entire plane load of luggage arrived on the luggage belt. People grabbed their bags and went through the Customs line so they could make their next connecting flight. Sandra and I waited…and waited…and waited some more. Eventually the belt stopped moving and we still never had our luggage. I went to see a man in the Customs office and explained that our bags never showed up. He assured me there more bags coming and we had to wait, so Sandra and I waited some more. Nothing more came through on the baggage belt conveyor, so I went to see the man again. This time he directed me to go through the Customs line and report the loss to the baggage clerk at the claims counter. I told Sandra I had to go through the line and she should wait there where she was seated until I returned.

Going to Israel is an experience, I suppose no matter where you are from, but I soon encountered a new experience. As I went through Customs empty handed. I explained to the officer what I had been instructed to do about my lost luggage. He promptly took me inside a tent set up for the purpose of doing body searches. He had me stand flat-footed with my legs far apart, bent over and leaning on a table. He patted me down from head to toe, stopping in some places that made me very uncomfortable. I was embarrassed with the thoroughness of his body search. Finally he let me go, so I went to the baggage claims clerk and told her about my lost luggage. She said that if it didn’t show up within fifteen minutes, we should go on to our final destination and report the loss there at Tel Aviv. I then walked over to the ticket agent and explained we had to wait another fifteen minutes for our luggage. “I am worried that our [plane is about to leave,” I told her.

“No, they will wait for you, Mr. Meredith. This happens quite often,” she told me.

“Do you mean they are holding up that 747 with 400 people until we get our bags?” I asked.

“Yes, they will wait,” was her answer.

I headed back to tell Sandra in the large waiting room where she sat, but I was directed to go back through the same tent. I protested, but to no avail. I suffered the same kind of search by the same officer as before. “You just did this to me a few minutes ago,” I told him. He ignored me and made me go through the same process as before, a bit friendlier with his hands than previously. Again, I was free to go see my wife, but I was beginning to think this guy liked me a little more than I was comfortable with.

Sandra and I waited another fifteen minutes, after which I told her I had to go back to the baggage clerk and tell her our bags weren’t there yet. She sent me over to talk to the ticket agent once again. “Has our plane waited on us?” I checked,

“No, they had to leave, but there will be another plane in three hours,” was my answer from her. “Please check your hand luggage through Customs and see me again for a ticket change.” She told me to back through Customs.

As I looked at that damn tent again, knowing what would take place there if I entered again, I decided to wait until the officer was busy and duck under the rope and avoid the tent search. And I did exactly that, ducked under the rope to go get Sandra. As I straightened up from ducking under the rope, a German soldier screamed for me to halt as he ran up to me with a really big gun. He grabbed me and turned me around and had the gun in my neck. I was sweating bullets by now. They thought I was a terrorist, or maybe something worse. He yelled at me in German, but I didn’t understand a thing he was saying. A second soldier came to help the first one. He also screamed at me. I thought I was about to be a dean man. I wondered at that moment how Sandra would ever get to Israel by herself.

Then I saw the Customs man in the blue suit come out of his little office to see what all the commotion was about. He walked over and asked the soldiers a question, which I didn’t understand. Then he turned to me and asked what happened. I tried to explain I was just trying to avoid another embarrassing body search.

I’m not sure what he said to the soldiers, but they holstered their guns and turned me loose to return to Sandra. I know I was shaking like a leaf when I reached her sitting against the rear wall of the large room. She looked at me, without even asking me how I was or anything that considered my near-death experience. “Did you get out tickets changed?” she asked.

In a very shaky voice I told her, “No, not yet.” I was still so out of breath I could barely manage to say anything. She gave me a direct order to get back up to that counter and get our tickets changed. I will not say what my next words to her were, but trust me, my church friends would not want to hear them.

In MY Wildest Dreams

Below is a short synopsis of one of my best selling e-book novels, a romance story that follows the story of Josh Whitley and the only two loves of his life. I think you will find the novel a very compelling read. It is available at:

In my Wildest Dreams

Synopsis

Joshua Whitley was a man working on his career goals when he met Julia Cusack in a lunch room one day. Julia was a beautiful young lady with career goals much like his. Yes, it was truly love at first sight for Josh, the name most people called him. Over time Josh and Julia became romantically involved and eventually married. They purchased the home of their dreams and started their family. However, their plan for life was soon to be derailed with an issue that was beyond their ability to solve. Life changed dramatically for Josh as his dreams for happiness spun out of control. Then an unexpected set of events in a family already marred with tragedy caused a change none in the family could have known would happen. Life for Josh went from being lonely, dull and boring, to a life filled with new hope and happiness for the future. In his wildest dreams Josh could never have planned what was about to happen to him, but it did happen. He met a new love in a place he never dreamed, and the rest as they say, is history.

Was it fate that threw Josh and Dianne together at the most critical time of their lives? Nobody could know for sure, but it was a match that had to be made in heaven. From the time they were first together as a couple, it was almost magic how success came to the two of them, both in love and in their separate business ventures. Obstacles that would have stopped others from getting together were simply viewed as challenges to be overcome by Josh and Dianne. This is an epic story of how love can overcome almost any obstacle if the passion is present.

Don’t think everything went smooth as silk for them though, because that would be a huge mistake. There is tragedy throughout this remarkable story, the loss of spouses, of parents, and even the horrible death of Dianne’s mother, all of which sent shock waves through this strong young couple as they struggled for success in life.

Dianne made a totally unexpected career change when she realized she had seen in a vision where the body of a missing elderly woman was located, a woman she had never met or knew personally. When Dianne was questioned about how she knew of the location of the dead woman, her responses gave the local authorities cause to see a need to solicit her help in other unsolved murder cases.

The story takes so many unpredictable turns it is difficult to write a synopsis that includes all the major parts of the story, but let it suffice to say the reader will be astonished by the unfolding of the story. It is a story that includes most of the elements one could possibly expect in a really great love story.
